Description

The Community Connections program at Aurora Mental Health & Recovery (AMHR) is a peer-based program that supports clients in their recovery process. Programming is based in SAMSHA's 8 dimensions of wellness. In-person and virtual activities are offered to clients both on-site and off-site. We are seeking a Recreation Specialist - Generalist who will work with a multidisciplinary team to develop and support clients in their leisure and recreation skills while encouraging clients to try new experiences and develop a feeling of accomplishment.

Shift. This is a fully On-site position working Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week, 8 hours/day.

Salary for this role. Starting wage is based on experience and company equity. Paid bi-weekly.
  • $19.65 - $29.46 hourly


About you.

The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills with the understanding of intercultural communications. They will have the ability to work with community partners, with independence and creativity, while also demonstrating the ability to problem-solve and be flexible. They will also be proficient using Microsoft Office programs and internet-based computer programs. This candidate will have specialized knowledge of education and support services for assisting clients with engaging in recreational activities.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach clients life skills to improve their mental and physical health while also maintaining a positive and supportive environment.
  • Encourage clients to become involved in the community by identifying community-based events they have demonstrated interest in or events that have the potential to promote improved physical and/or mental health.
  • Plan and implement engagement in community events, physical activities, and other recreational pursuits that serve to positively impact clients' physical and emotional health.
  • Manage schedule of activities and groups for clients.
  • Assist with ordering supplies that are needed for client activities, groups, or events.
  • Support wellness practices through skill development in community-based programming such as hiking, participating in a community garden project, and/or various cultural events.
  • Provide individualized coaching of skills in 1:1 meetings with clients, as well as small and medium-sized groups.
  • Encourage clients to learn and/or practice social skills.
  • Encourage clients to learn and/or practice coping skills.
  • Encourage clients to learn and/or practice health and wellness skills.
  • Be a resource guide for clients to access.
  • Ensure clients engage. Encourage clients to try new experiences.
  • Promote a positive environment to help clients feel safe to experience new situations.
  • Provide specialized knowledge of topics related to physical and mental health to encourage clients to engage in recreational activities.
  • Work collaboratively with clients and other team members to assess clients' social, health, and wellness needs and how best to support clients as they work to achieve their social, health, and wellness goals.
  • Interact with other agencies to create a pathway for client access to community events.
  • Help clients overcome barriers to their recovery through the use of structured behavioral interventions aimed at learning new skills and supporting behavior change.
  • Meet agency documentation standards including timely documentation in the electronic health record and passing coding audit standards for documentation.
  • Staff member will complete needed care coordination tasks for their assigned role.


Qualifications

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or other related human services degree is required
  • Previous experience working in a mental health setting is required.
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License with a driving record that meets organization's requirements.
  • Excellent understanding of factors related to improving physical and mental health through participation in recreational activities.
  • Passionate about working with the population diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness.
  • Ability to work with community partners and navigate relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills with understanding of intercultural communications.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office programs and internet-based computer programs.
  • Specialized knowledge of education and support services for assisting clients to engage in recreational activities


Required Vaccinations and TB Test.

AMHR has prioritized the health and safety of our clients and staff and requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, receive an annual influenza (flu) shot, and receive negative TB test results prior to their first day of hire. Proof of both vaccinations and negative TB test will be required upon your first day of employment. Medical and religious exemptions may be requested for the COVID 19 vaccine, annual flu shot or TB test.
